Well, jus’ dam! This is a weird box to type in for me; just not used to it, I reckon. The bar up yonder doesn’t seem to give me a choice of fonts, which is not prezackly my cuppa, but I’m here, and I’ll figger these things out in time.
I dunno how to add an avatar, or whatever they’re calling it, over here … that’s a prime objective, for now. Also, how do I get my old blog in here, and: are the comments included? are the albums included? and what about the mails? and do I have to carry all that I “follow” on my bookmarks, or what?
I just looked at the preview, and apparently I’m stuck with this Arial, or whatever this abomination of type design is called, which does NOT please me, not at all.

Hi there! If you mean an avatar for comments and such, I use this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/user-photo/
For exporting and importing your old blog posts, this articles links to instructions: http://www.wptavern.com/my-opera-shutting-down-how-to-move-to-wordpress
As for the font used on your blog, that’s a function of the theme, and you can choose from many more now. Just look under Appearance -> Themes, there should be something to your liking.
Hope this helps.

Thanks; I have a “Gravatar” (sigh!) now … it’s microscopically small in the URCorner.
As for moving, I found the instructions helpful, except the URL for acquiring a blogspace leads to a non-functioning page. I tried it over and over, but it wouldn’t work. Eva gave me a URL that led to a page that works. Needless to say, I used it.
I tried another “theme”, and it was everything I wanted, except it insisted on me cropping my header. I’ll decide whether and where my shots get cropped, thank you very much, Mr. WordPress! So I came back to this, at least temporarily.

The little Gravatar that you see in the upper right is only visible to you. It’s part of your administrative toolbar. To the left of your login name and Gravatar, there’s a little box that’s very useful. It turns red whenever you have new notifications. When you click on it, you can see a list of your most recent notifications. If you click on a list item that’s a comment, the text of the comment pops out to the left, and by clicking the “reply” link at the bottom of their comment, you can respond to them right there.

We are getting plenty of space here 🙂
When we get to know how things work it will be just fine

My man! You’ve made it over here from MyOpera as well. 😛
I’m still getting used to WordPress as well, even though I had a blog here a year or two ago. That blog didn’t last long.
Yes, the MyOpera blog imports okay (have you checked out my imported blog from MyOpera). It attempts to import all of your photos as well (you have quite a number of great ones) but you may eventually have to upload the few that don’t import.

Hi dW. Glad you made it here. My albums still aren’t here. Haven’t figured it out nor received an answer from WP forum. I’ll keep hunting and pecking and “figger” it out as you say. In the meantime, I’m going to open a flickr account….maybe…or at least get them all copied and back in folders in my pc.
I’m not even sure how I added my avatar. I think it was by accident. LOL.

I understand that Sami knows how to get the Albums here … I’ll check.

Like I have explained elsewhere (or tried 😀 ), it is not a good idea import albums here. They just take too much precious space. Remember, we have only 40 MB space here at WP!. Therefore I suggest you use Flickr for photos and this WP for blog. See here how to publish WP articles from Flickr: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/flickr-photos/
That way the images become inline linked aka are not uploaded to WP. Works pretty well.
Oh, and hi dW 🙂

Sami, some place I read that we have 3GB here, not 40MB … that’s a gig more than we had at MyOpera. Are you sure about this?
Serola
November 24, 2013 at 7:40 am
es, my mistake. 3GB it is. And a very pleasant surprise was to find one can easily open even more blogs, group blogs, and then each of them get 3GB.

That “Group blog” thing sounds like you might be able to move S&T here, en bloc, as it were.
Serola
November 24, 2013 at 5:15 pm
We have considered to continue S&T here at WordPress, dW. However, I think there is no sense to import it as such. Almost all links at current S&T refer to old contents there at MyOpera.
But we S&T moderators have not yet made the final decision.

Hi DW, glad to see you here. WP takes a bit of getting used to but it’s okay, really. It has some good features. My real issue at the moment is that Google still hasn’t found my new blog…
There is a plugin for albums, but I don’t know if works on the wordpress.com sites. I’m probably going to put mine on Flickr. Other than that, my Opera blog imported fairly smoothly. The links to all the videos are broken, but I can live with that.
Re: avatars, in WP’s universe they’re called Gravatars. You can get there by going to the Dashboard > Users (on the left side) > My Profile.

Got it already, but thanks.
As to albums, I’m going to investigate getting them here. Right now, Brendan seems to be repelling borders … there’s some female person that’s being abusive on his thread. If you go there, and try to look her up, be sure to log off MyOpera beforehand, so you don’t get picked up by her site. She tends to be lavish with her annoyances.

If you have a Google account, you can use Google’s Webmaster tools. That might help. http://www.google.com/webmasters/ And here’s an article from the support teams about how to do it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

Thank you for sending me the link to your new blog, dW. I’m still here. Truly. Sorry to fall off the face of My Opera for so long. I received the recipe you emailed me. Thank you. Mostly, thank you for caring and checking in, even asking Jill when you didn’t hear back from me for so very long. That’s not my usual way. Usually I’m an over replier. My husband’s cancer fight ended on August 26, 2013. He was a warrior to his last breath. We were all there, well nearly, his sister was flying home. His parents, brother, the boys and I were there. It’s been four months now. Sometimes it feels longer and other times the grief is fresh. I wasn’t sure where to send or write a note to you. Hope this spot is OK. I hadn’t realized My Opera was closing. Looks like I’ll be figuring out WordPress for blogging too. I’m glad we can import our posts and hopefully the photos too. I’ve been writing at Tumblr since November 2012, partly because the mobile app makes it so easy to post poems and photos “on the fly,” which lately has been the only way I can write. Your photos are beautiful as always. I scrolled past some beauts on my way to this post. Best, Janean a.k.a Turquoise Tangles at My Opera/Tumblr/Twitter/Facebook and LinkedIn too

Thanks for replying, Janean … I was hoping some sort of word would get back to you, but I was afraid you had got yourself lost.
Well, I reckon I don’t need to ask how you feel; I know … I’ve been there, and you don’t really know how you feel, yourself. What’s more, you won’t really feel that life is real for another few years. I’m just starting to notice the ground under my feet now, and it’s been five years and a bit. You’ve got your boys to keep you anchored, and that’s a big help.
Keep in touch, there’s nothing like friends at a time like this.

Thank you for your January 5th reply. I wanted to let you know, I did manage to get myself set up here at Word Press and conquered some technical difficulties in the process. There is more fixing up and tweaking ahead, but I got the basics in place before the cut off day. *whew* Also, were you able to save your photo albums? I was able to acquire mine in a zip file of my whole My Opera blog. It worked. Hope you save yours too.
You said it well. All of it. It’ll be six months tomorrow since he died. Half a year. We are healing. We are still alive.

I have the ZIP file, too … but I don’t know how to move it here. There is something called “Galleries” but that’s all I know.
Don’t hesitate to call on me if you find a need to talk … you can email me at any time … I think you have the address. If not, ask here, and I’ll send it. You’re in the roughest of the rough patch now, you and the boys. The boys will need some good mothering, but they’ll repay you by holding you together.
It never really goes away, the pain, but it gets easier to live with.
Take care, dear … take his Kalashnikov out in the back and let off a few rounds every now and then … he’ll appreciate it, and you can teach the boys to shoot … he’ll appreciate that, too.
