A few details of a little pond, shot on the 12th of June, 2012 …

17 Jun

You've probably seen shots of this place before, but on this day, for some reason the squirting fountain in the middle of the pond was shut off, giving a dead flat water surface. The reflections of the sky, and the shadows of the trees gave an interesting change … usually, the fountain-y thing just kind of hides everything. So here they are, no comments from me are necessary, I think:

Well, perhaps a word of explanation is needed here: On my way home, I stopped at a restaurant for a bite of lunch (σπανακόπιτα), and these are some boards in the fence against which I parked the car:

And I reckon that's about it, so, obeying the rule of "when you get to the end, stop", I hereby stop.

There are some cats that WON'T be confined to the house, full stop. The outdoor run might work, or it might not; try it. Tethering her is just asking for trouble; cats don't understand being tethered any better than dogs do, and they're forever tangling themselves up, sometimes dangerously, and other cats, dogs, and large raptors can still get to them. A covered run, secure, and as big as possible, is the answer. My parents had a siamese, of very even temperament, which they would tether with a bit of string, to an old park bench that was outside the front door. She would walk around a little at first, but then climb up on the bench and curl up in the sun. Then my neighbour's Labrador retriever would come over, they would communicate a bit, and then the dog would curl up under the bench, and they'd both nap. It was a fine arrangement, and lasted until the cat died. The Lab was lonesome for a while, but everyone in the neighbourhood knew and loved her, so it wasn't too bad for her.
