It smells like Flagstaff in wildfire season around here.

14 Sep

We're getting a bunch of smoke in the air … it looks like fog, but it ain't. This is unusual because the fires were set by lightning, in the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota and Ontario … 400 miles away! The really interesting bit is, that in that area, the fires are allowed to burn, as a Force of Nature, or something like that. If it comes outside the borders of the area, that bit gets put out (if possible), so people won't lose their homes.
Maybe.
Anyway, it bids fair to go on burning for a bit, but we expect a wind change in a couple of days, so someone else will get the smoke. Meanwhile, we have air-quality warnings out, especially for folks who have difficulty breathing at the best of times. I was out in it yesterday … it smelled like Rendezvous-time to me … the woodsmoke of the campfires and all. But it did get to me after a while.
You've all seen pics of this place in clear weather; this is what it looked like yesterday:

Meanwhile, I'm working on a bunch of new ones … and I mean a BUNCH! The multi-exposure mode is very handy, especially when shooting things in motion, but man, do I get a lot of exposures! Naturally, LOTS of them aren't going to be used, but I've got lots of sorting to do, especially since I've been exploring the (to me) lost art of shooting objects in motion … the Oly was really only good for sleeping wildlife. LOL
Later, folks …

Sounds like a massive dose of `passive smoking`.Rendezvous-time. Is that a reference to the Mountain men`s annual get-together.

Wow, that's quite a difference! Here in Fargo, it is so crystal clear, when the sun is shining, I'm going to have to start wearing sun glasses. Never wore them in Phoenix. Too much haze or smog, I guess.

I've seen similar hazes over the Rockies in the fire season. It is like smog, but the burned forest will hopefully provide good habitat once it is done. Cannot be too good to smell it all the time though :yuck:
