Some more "edges", I reckon … have you ever noticed how many people wait until full sun to take a picture? I think the "custom" is fading, but it's still awfully common … but the best time (for me) to take pictures is when the light is at a pronounced angle, as at sunup or sundown … hmmmm … that "sundown" makes me think of "sundowners" … just a second, I'm going to make me a little drinkie, LOL … Anyway … the raking, angled light seems to "sculpt" the shapes it hits, making them snap out of the general clutter. This is true, even in a case when the sun is full up … for us, but on the moon …
I think it's interesting how the blue of the sky kinda leaks into the dark bits of the moon, so that you can almost believe that you're looking through "holes" in the moon. I wonder what the ancients thought of that … it must have driven them nuts.
But, as the sun goes down, it brings out our friends who prefer to move about in the relative safety of darkness …
Ooooops! That guy's lookin' at me!"
And dawn … ah! the light!
Who would think that a thermonuclear furnace could be so beautiful? Or that it would bring out such a pretty visitor? I found her irresistable:
And her more flamboyantly coloured boyfriend …
Waiting …
I like the formal qualities of this, which, incidentally, is another reason to photograph at the beginning and end of the day … the people either have not arrived, or they've gone home … people do NOT contribute to the formal qualities of a picture … at least, not very often.
And here are some more wavelets for Pam …
Another nice early morning series of shots …
In this one, the lines drawn by the clouds (probably windblown jet contrails, if the truth be known) seem to mimic some of the lines that John Marin used to paint in his watercolour skies … a compositional device, and it's happening here, too …
And this one is toward sunset …
And, as a reward for sitting through all this, you get:
Strawberry shortcake!
Cheers, all, until the next time …

😆 May I have some good strong black coffee with that strawberry shortcake? I usually have cream and sugar with my coffee but when I'm eating something sweet, my coffee must be straight up. Another great bunch of photos. You make it hard to pick a favorite. Thanks for the wavelets. Love the sun rays in the fourth photo and love the bunnie and the duckies. You know in the bunny photo, there is something brownish orange in the bushes on the right. Strange, but it looks like a fish! 😀 Any family photos I took years ago, I took around 4 in the afternoon. The sun was behind the house and we'd gather in the front. There was plenty of light but no one, kids especially, were squinting or complaining. The photos were always best for me at that time.

Hi, Pam … never noticed the shape of that bit of winterkill before … it DOES look like a fish!Maybe I'll "burn" it a little darker. Some day.Hi, Zaphira … I thought that strawberry shortcake would go over pretty well. I'm quite fond of it, myself. Glad you liked the pictures, though I can't claim credit for the sun and clouds … I CAN claim credit for knowing a good picture when I see it, and snapping the shutter, and I do.

About the blue areas on the moon – maybe that's why they're called "seas"? Some of them. Like "The Silent Sea".
derWandersmann
March 10, 2009 at 11:03 pm
When did the term "mare" come into use for the dark areas on the moon? I rather think it had to be with Galileo, because until he invented his telescope and declared that the moon was "a world", I have no idea what the moon was thought to be. But only a "world" can have "seas".But I'm just grasping at straws, here … I have no idea.

Thank you both …Risis, I have no idea what you mean by your praise, except that you like the pictures, but … are you, perhaps, complimenting me on my narrative skills? I assure you, it is quite accidental … I didn't start with a plan. I started with the photos I wished to post, and let happen what happened. I'm glad it worked well for you.

No, your English was good enough to get that point across … I was just doubtful that that was what you meant, probably my own insecurity showing (Blush! There goes my macho!). More my fault than yours, I think …Thank you.

To: risis …Yes … Though you did not make yourself a dummy … in fact, you noticed something that NONE of the rest of us had noticed. That makes US the dummies! And yes … I found the thing I said, and I still think it was a good thing. To: AgnetaM …Thank you. I try my hardest to make the pictures what I want them to be and to tell others what I feel and see inside. I am glad that they communicate for me, because what I say in pictures cannot be said in words. I learned that from my dad.And yes, she was talented … she has left, now, and gone Beyond the Veil, but I am sure she has more Art in her, for it was not all gone when she died. She will be back, drawing and painting again, I am sure.

Thank you, both. It is hard, but it was harder, and is getting easier. I have not heard much from her since she died, save for an occasional thought that is unmistakably hers, and always sets me to laughing. Her mother has heard more, but they both had more to settle between them than she and I did … we were so much alike that we never felt any need to change the other.

Thank you … I have said before that I find it a lttle puzzling to hear that people really seem to like my chatter between the pictures. I really had no idea of churning out literary gems, but I seem to have done it, at least for some people. And, SC, have you acquired a copy of Photoshop yet, and if so, what version is it? I ask because I have a .pdf of the Photoshop 6.0 BIBLE, by Deke McClelland, and if you need it, I can (somehow) get it to you. I would not recommend printing it; it's on the close order of 1,000 pages, but storing it in your machine is more than feasible. I'm using P'shop 7.0, and I find there's not that much difference. There isn't much that Photoshop can do that isn't in there … of course, finding it is something else again.

Still haven't looked into Photoshop. Will let you know when I do. Thanks for the offer. That sounds like a really heavy bible. I had a walk around a different lake yesterday and got some good shots. That was after eight days without action.

Thank you, World Hunter … I do not hunt, myself, but I do encourage it by those who are so inclined. We have taken so many of the predators out of our ecological systems that if we did not hunt, and thereby replace them, we should be hip-deep in starving game animals before lunch. So I teach chaps how to zero their rifles each hunting season. Besides, I like to shoot … if one hunts, one gets to shoot once, perhaps twice. I'd rather go to the range, and try to put five into one hole.I enjoy your posts, too, Mr (Mrs?) Leffe (you know, it is devilishly difficult for me to decide upon a term of address for one whom I know is female, yet seems to call herself Mr. Can you help me with this? You may PM me with the information, if you like.). I drop by your blog from time to time to see what miracle you have worked with your camera.Thank you, Lan; I'm glad you like them. I love it whan people like my work. And you … how are you? Are you well? Happy? And thank you, Maryam … I'm not quite sure what you mean, but it seems good to me … I hope you have been making pictures, too.
