A few more, anyway … I think I'm not too far out of line by going from the full moon of the last post to a waning moon …
And then we can back up to a really nice sunset out at my rifle range …
Looking away, again … I find that to be a useful trick, to take a shot in the OPPOSITE direction that everyone is looking. But, here's what happened in the usual direction, a few minutes later:
These tall trees, almost totally bare of leaves, made a perfect foil for a bunch of clouds rolling in from the West …
Now, back to the future again (Yes, this is really time travel, you know! Captured moments), and in this case, a captured display of celestial bravura …
And one of those things that make one glad to wake up early …
And guess who's been hanging around all this time, watching?
Broad morning, this time, and a braw one, too, as the Scots say …
And, to greet the dawn …
The faith shown by a flower puts the rest of us to shame … secure in the faith that the sun will rise, it opens at the first touch of light.
And the lake, too, awaits the rising sun …
Muted, quiet colours, just before dawn …
And here are some of the early morning visitors, hoping for a bit of breakfast before the inevitable people arrive, making their inevitable noise …
Naturally, I found this next visitor fascinating … I took several exposures:
I think he was a juvenile Great Blue, but I'm not sure … I've never found pictures of juvenile ones, so the colours may indicate that he was something else …
At any rate, enjoy these … I certainly enjoyed taking them.

Had been in a bad mood today….then I looked at your photos….the bad mood is now gone. Positively gorgeous photos again. Now how can I pick a favorite? I always like to and I don't know why. I was quite taken with all the birds on the shore. The half circles made by the sand, the water, then again with the wave, plus the birds and the grasses makes for an outstanding composition. Your guess is as good as mine if that's a Great Blue Heron or not. Whatever it is, I love the one where it's standing in the water with all the movement of the water as the background. But then I also love the one where the straight line of the little wave accentuates the curve of the birds neck.

Especially since we just had a big lake-effect snowstorm here … Any where from 8" to 15" (20 to 38 cm), and it's still snowing.

Tak to you, too … (Allan just taught me how to spell it.).That 504mm maximum zoom really helps, along with built-in Image Stabilisation. And it didn't hurt that I was leaning my elbows on a camper van, either.

Okay, no wonder my shots of the moon never get this close then. 😀

Well, as far as "close" goes, that's just a section of the frame … the whole frame actually has about the same proportion as the shot of the new moon, farther down. But the spectacular quality of the shot is from the steadiness of the camera, and some very careful Photoshop work.BTW, have you seen Leffe's new shot of the old moon in the new moon's arms? It's fantastic. I think she's got it in the Night Photo Network.
